Why: Women aged 40 years old and above are encouraged to have their breast mammograms as it serves as an important tool in detecting early signs of breast cancer. Early detection of breast cancer can help save lives.
When: It is recommended that women aged 40 to 49 should go once a year for mammogram screening, and for women above 50, once in every 2 years.
How: During the screening, the breast will be gently rested and flattened between the plates of the X-ray machine for a few seconds. This will enable the radiographer to get a good image of the breast which will then be developed and examined by radiologist or doctor to check for any abnormalities.
